Really...REALLY?!

As much as I love trends I sometimes really, really don't. Consider this: you are scoping the mall for the latest and the "innest" look on the market and have become quite enamored with a certain dress after hours of combing through the "new arrival" section. You decide to finally make the purchase after careful deliberation, only to see three other girls on the way home with same exact dress. Now you're broke and even if you look great, so does everyone else. Perhaps this scenario wouldn't bother some people, but it is absolutely one of my biggest pet peeves when generic, uninventive stores carry copy-cat fashions and people end up having the same clothes.

Don't get me wrong, I think this dress looks great! It's simple and it gives off that classic, ballerina vibe, but I swear I saw five different girls wearing this style of dress today going to and coming home from school, in different color combinations. To think I almost bought it off Modclothe.com a while ago, today would would've been simply be too tragic seeing my dress on everyone else.

Speaking of dresses, I saw "500 Days of Summer" and was absolutely swoon by Zooey Deschanel's beauty and her heart-warmingly tasteful frocks. I'm totally mesmerized by her style and have been inspired to wear dresses more often.

Loveless

I have been getting really bored of dressing up lately and been wanting to do something drastic. I thought about going back to the very basics with just shorts and t-shirts but got bored even more quickly. After completely ransacking my closet, here's the best I can come up with...

Here's a 50's inspired look. I have on a polka dot one-piece jumper and a laced cardigan, both thrifted and awesome!
My grunge revival attempt...with a cowboy twist.
Lately I've been super low on funds and been stressed the fucked out about school so I kind of put fashion on the back burner. I have however been reinventing some of my old pieces into new and different outfit components.

I love you, I love you, oh brother of mine

It is officially summer but the Vancouver weather is less than enthused about the turning of a season. So far it has been overcast all week and I'm finding it hard to get into the summer mood with all the clouds and gray skies. I have no problem however celebrating the warmer climate (or a lack of) by purchasing bucket loads of thrifted "summer essentials". Since I've been obsessed with old lady-lace things I've buying pretty much nothing but doilies lookin' shirts. Here's an outfit featuring my new fave lace shrug/vest thingy.
This outfit does not feature any doilies, but it reminds me of a time back in May when it was 30 degrees out...I want summer here NOW!

I'm Baaaaaaaaack...with Alison Mosshart

I have been gone for quite some time, almost forgot how to blog. Anyway, here's a couple of inspirations

Alison Mosshart is probably one of my faves in terms of fashion go-to's. Plus she makes smoking look sexy as shit!

Her style the perfect blend of soft and hard.

loooove that jacket! This makes me want to go and get a leopard print button shirt. She's notorious for that look!

Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to photograph any of my outfits yet. Ever since I got back from Sasquatch my camera has been super dead. By dead I mean I've been forgetting to charge it.

The Doctor is in the House

Happy new year to all the Chinese friends, It sure is awesome to be Chinese! Apart from splurging at the mall for the past couple of days, (I know, I disgust myself too but I made justly purchases) I have engaged in some creative activities, namely splatter-dying a couple of shirts.

As much as I love American Apparel I generally find their stuff to be just a tab bit pricey. While I do admit the quality and the production ethics are undebatable but in practice, a broke-ass student like me simply can't shop there on a regular basis. I recently visited AA and fell in love with their Space Scape T-shirts (especially the florescent green splatter one), but found the idea of paying $30 dollars for it to be somewhat absurd and frivolous.

The awesomeness of the shirt stayed with me well after I have left the shop and the desire soon turned into a flash of insight. I decided to make my own splatter shirts. On the way home, I purchased two colors of fabric dyes (purple and yellow) and a pack of basic T-shirts from Zellers and decided to kick it D.I.Y. style. Here is how they turned out:

They look like shirts that belong to someone who has just axe-murdered a bunch of purple plums, but I think they turned out fabulously.
To reward my success of saving money via D.I.Y. , I decided (actually, my father did) to make an investment purchase of a pair of very handsome Doc Martens ankle boots. I know in the past I have claimed to never buy new, leather products but the price and make of these babies are simply too irresistible to pass on. I bought them in a store that are currently having a clearance sale in the mall, the lady informed me that they (this particular store) are no longer going to carry Doc Martens because the production value is apparently way too high, hence the sale marking down from $130 to $ 77.50!

Though I was extremely uncomfortable buying new, leather shoes I felt like I have made the right economical decision, plus I can't brave the Burnaby mountain snow in normal boots, and on a grander scheme of things, I am still a very strict vegetarian and am never superfluous or excessive if I were to buy new that contains animals products (the Doc Martens actually are the only new and leather things I own).
