Yesterday, I attended my first official hard-core show and it was an immensely rowdy experience. I've never been an avid fan of hard-core music but I've always appreciated their political message, D.I.Y. ethics and their defiance against the main stream. The bands I saw yesterday were incredibly energetic as well as inspirational. My favorite performance of the night was by a band called Ruiner from Baltimore, U.S. The lead singer was this intense yet humble person who spoke with a dubious amount of eloquence for someone who's seems like such a bad-ass. His banters between songs were especially enjoyable because they were not the usual lighthearted personal anecdotes but cynical remarks which I found extremely insightful and poetic. After two and half hours of avoiding being squished by rambunctious punk rockers with liberty spikes sharp enough to puncture the aorta, I have a new found respect for hard-core music. A shot of Ruiner in dramatic black and white
I wanted to channel my inner grung/punk-rocker so much that my outfit seemed completely cliche. But, I honestly couldn't care less because the show was way too fun!

Your inner puck looks killer!
I used to go to a lot of hardcore shows, and they were always a ton of fun. I'm not really in that crowd anymore, but I have good memories of it. I like the outfit too, btw :)

hahaha i love it.
i'm glad you weren't punctured.
i really like your posts. you write wonderfully. oh and your outfit is not completely cliche... i didn't see any studs or chains at least (: hehe.
oh and your hair still looks great! do you trim it every week to keep it like that? if i had the guts to shave half my head, i would. it looks so good, and makes such a statement.
ps. I think it's the fact that I've never smoked anything in my life, that makes it seem glamorous. And maybe also that the pictures I've seen involves really glamorous-looking people. I don't think it's bad! I'm probably going to try it one day anyway.
first pic is awesome + thanks for the award!
Moderate out that last comment? I have a such an appreciation for eloquent bad ass. So unexpected
I love the grunge look, even if it is cliche! I'm glad you had a nice time at the show :)
I love your outfit! And your hair! That shaved patch is so cool *.*
I've only seen a couple of hardcore bands(or was it a thrash band? ah all these subgenres) and people were always v. friendly even if it was waay obvious that I'm not in the 'scene', haha. Glad you had fun though, and you look fantastic!
Hey thanks for the nice comment on my blog :) I went to a couple of punk shows on the Lower East Side last spring. The first time I went into the moshpit (one of the only women doing so) within a minute I got accidentally punched in the face by some dude twice my size, hahaha. I remember going home on the subway smelling like 20 different peoples' sweat. Punkers are good to talk to because you can discuss serious shit with them that most other people don't really want to discuss. Like the second time I went there was this really great band called Oak & Bone, and me and this other girl and a couple of the dudes in the band spent like 40 minutes talking about whether it's possible to live a good life in modern society.
I love your hair btw. I've considered shaving half my head before but it wouldn't go with the times when I want to be girly.
oh and I forgot to mention: acid washed denim jackets are the best.
Your hair looks amazing! You pull off the punk look with ease!
