Chomsky Would Probably Disagree

I haven't been the thriftiest person lately because I discovered just how much I enjoy shopping online. That's probably the saddest thing I've ever experienced because I now have solid evidence that I'm lazy as fuck. So lazy that I won't even get off my ass to go to the thrift store even though potential kick-ass outfits at a bargain could so easily be achieved.

When I do leave the house for things other than necessities such as going to work or buying food because I simply can't eat frozen dumplings for the fourth day in a row, I've been known to find some rare gems. Like this Boss Hog CD I found at the local used book store. The sad thing is, I don't own a CD player.

This speaks to me in so many ways. One, I sometimes really enjoy emocore. Two, I've actually broken many strings where at the time felt like the perfect reason to lose it and start bawling because all those times happened in the middle of an intense jam or live on stage.

I think this is pretty self-explanatory.

Rather Ripped

I'm terribly saddened because I can't for the life of my find my sewing machine foot pedal cord. This means that my plan of making millions by selling home-made dresses on Etsy will have to be postponed until I can find a circuit breaking apparatus that allows me to sew at my own pace.

Two summers ago I became obsessed with sewing. It's one of those additions that offers only hits of ecstasy when you eventually realize that you can save a ton of money by fashioning say a pillow case into a pair of shorts. I guess the sense of accomplishment after you've done that serves to be quite rewarding too. Seriously, just try and create something one of these days; anything. The experience is truly wonderful.

When I open my Etsy shop stocked with boxy, recycled garments made out of textiles found around the house I will be displaying the pieces via my blog. Please keep a keen eye out for that perfect shower curtain dress in the near future.

Sonic Youth fucking rocks btw. Did I mention that already in the past?

To Kim and Thurston

As with most people, I get quite attached to those who exert a great deal of influence over me. This includes people I've never met but have developed a deep affinity for throughout my years of vicarious living via their creations such as music, movies or art.

Sonic Youth is one of my favourite bands of all time so it is not far fetched for me to say that I almost cried upon hearing that Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore are getting a divorce. This is sad on two accounts: one has to do with the termination of a 27 year long marriage and the other has to do with the fact that Sonic Youth may inadvertently dissolve.

But as with almost all tragic turn of events, the personal interpretation of the something of this nature goes deeper than just the two reasons. For me, this really paints a bleak picture for the longevity of relationships. In this case, the reeking cliche that "nothing lasts forever" mocks even more so because this is the type of model relationship that we all thought was going to "last forever". As far as we can infer, this is the relationship that that encouraged mutual inspiration and yielded creation. It's the type of relationship most of us hope to have (at least for me). So when this union ends, we are disenchanted and we say to ourselves "fuck, even they couldn't avoid that...what chances do we have?"

To honor Kim and Thurston in a fashion-relevant way (applicable to this blog). I'm going to dress myself in Kim Gorton inspired outfits for the next week, starting tomorrow.
